TIPS from the TPE Expert at Winner Aviation

Winner Aviation is proud to be the "Oldest Independent Factory Authorized Honeywell TPE 331 Engine Major Service Center in the World"

Ron Butler, Engine Shop Supervisor for Winner Aviation has worked on TPE 331 engines for more than 40 years now. He is currently celebrating his 40th year with Winner Aviation Corporation. With Ron’s experience and knowledge with TPE-331 engines, we would like to share a few of his tips with you on how to care for your TPE 331 engines.

1.) Operators should record cycles and provide that information to their maintenance facility on each visit to avoid confusion.

2.) Operators of -5 powered commanders should remember to NEVER start a -5 engine if the ITT indicator becomes inoperative. It isn’t a case of not knowing your start temperature, but you run the risk of overtemping the engine. Fuel Enrichment is cycled by the ITT indicator. With no ITT indication, enrichment will remain open through the entire start resulting in over fueling the engine, which could lead to a hot start.

3.) Fuel nozzle maintenance intervals on -10 powered aircraft are contained in Honeywell SB72-0180 R31 and subsequent. If you encounter an engine start where the RPM hesitates after starter drop out, the fuel nozzles many need cleaning.

    Red Carpet Treatment...

"We flew in to YNG yesterday, as a storm was moving through. Two members of the line crew came to meet us with umbrellas in pouring rain. They brought our rental car to the plane while we were registering at the desk and waited in the rain for me to return so that they could help load the luggage. Then, in case the thunderstorm dropped any hail they towed the plane into a hangar. After all of this when I attempted to tip them they said, tips are not necessary, we are here to serve. I've experienced some amazing service at FBO's but I would be hard pressed to say that any exceeded the attentiveness of the crew at Winner. They live up to their name. Thank you Winner Aviation."
